Choosing Cleats by Material & Application

Selecting the correct material for your rope cleats depends entirely on the expected load, environment and aesthetic of your boat.

Stainless Steel & Marine-Grade Alloy

For ultimate strength, corrosion resistance and high-load capacity. Stainless steel deck cleats and alloy bollards are the industry standard for securing primary mooring lines. What Size Cleat Do You Need?

Choosing cleat size is mostly about what the cleat is doing and the rope you’re using.

As a quick guide:

Light lines & flag halyards → 75–100mm
Fender lines & general deck use → 100–150mm
Mooring & high‑load use → 150–300mm

For rope fit and handling comfort:

6–8mm rope → 75–125mm cleat
10–12mm rope → 125–175mm cleat
14–16mm rope → 175–250mm cleat
