Inboard and Outboard Engines FAQ
What products are included in the Marine Electrical department?
This department covers everything from complete Outboard Engines to the consumables and components that keep both inboard and outboard systems healthy.
When it comes outboard engines, we stock complete 4‑Stroke Petrol Outboards and Electric Outboards from well known brands like Torqeedo and ePropulsion. These are supported by a full range of outboard accessories and spares.
This includes everyday service items such as Spark Plugs, Fuel Filters, Shear Pins and Engine Oils. There are also all the practical add‑ons like Flushing Muffs, Engine Locks, Prop Covers, Outboard Brackets, Trollies and Kill Cords.
To keep your fuel system clean and dependable, we also offer Fuel Treatments, Fuel Tanks and Fuel Lines. To make trasnferring fuel as easy as can be we have Jerry Cans and Funnels.
Our inboard engine selection focuses on the systems that keep your engine bay running smoothly and safely.
You’ll find lubricants, antifreeze and fuel treatments to protect your engine and keep it running smoothly all year. Shop for Stern Glands, Shaft Bearings, Water Strainers and Exhaust Hose & Components, all designed to support reliable cooling and propulsion.
To keep your engine space safe and efficient, we also stock Acoustic Insulation, Bilge Ventilation and Gauges. Together, these products help maintain airflow, reduce noise and monitor your engine.
What fuel treatments and additives should I use for marine engines?
Marine fuel can deteriorate surprisingly quickly — especially if your boat sits unused between trips or over winter. The right fuel treatment helps prevent costly starting issues and protects your engine from internal damage.
For petrol outboards, modern fuels containing ethanol can absorb moisture and lead to phase separation, corrosion and blocked carburettors. A quality petrol fuel stabiliser helps reduce water contamination, prevent ethanol-related problems and keep fuel fresh during storage.
For diesel inboards, the main risks are microbial growth (diesel bug), sludge build-up and injector fouling. A dedicated diesel fuel additive helps kill bacteria, disperse water and maintain clean injectors for smoother running and improved reliability.
We stock proven marine treatments from trusted brands such as Quicksilver, Soltron and Marine 16, formulated specifically for the challenges of the marine environment. Whether you’re laying up for winter or maintaining fuel quality through the season, the right additive keeps your tank protected and your engine ready to start when you need it.
Do you stock electric outboard spares and accessories?
Yes—our range includes spares for popular electric models like ePropulsion, Torqeedo and Minn Kota.
You can find spare or replacement batteries, chargers, props and brackets as well as many other parts. Keeping you engine performing at its best and ensuring you don't get caught out.
Electric outboards are low-maintenance, quiet, and eco-friendly—perfect for inland waters or sailboats wanting auxiliary power.
What maintenance does an outboard engine need?
Regular outboard maintenance focuses on keeping the engine clean, lubricated and free from fuel‑related issues.
Start with the basics: change the Engine Oil, replace Spark Plugs, and check or replace Fuel Filters as part of your routine service schedule. After every saltwater trip, flush the cooling system using Flushing Muffs to prevent salt build‑up and corrosion.
It’s also important to look over the external hardware. Inspect Shear Pins, propellers and Fuel Lines for wear or damage, and make sure all fittings and clamps are secure. Using Fuel Treatments can help keep the system clean, especially if the engine sees seasonal use.
For easier servicing, tools like Oil Extractors make clean oil changes straightforward. Having a protective Prop Bag or Engine Cover helps keep the outboard safe during transport or storage.
Always store the engine upright and ensure it’s dry before putting it away for winter.
