Bathyscopes and Aquascopes
A bathyscope (also known as an aquascope or underwater viewer) is a simple but incredibly useful tool to keep on board. It allows you to see clearly below the surface of the water without the glare of reflections—and most importantly, without having to get wet.
Whether you are carrying out essential mid-season maintenance or just enjoying the view, an underwater viewer serves several practical purposes on the water:
- Hull & Propeller Inspections: Quickly check your waterline, rudder, anodes, or look for a fouled prop without needing to put on a wetsuit or hire a diver.
- Scouting the Seabed: Ideal for checking the holding ground before you drop anchor, or verifying that your anchor is safely set.
- Exploring Marine Life: A great way to observe fish, reefs, and riverbeds from the dry comfort of your deck or dinghy.
