Marine 16 Diesel Bug Treatment - 100ml
Marine diesel bug may be killed completely using this treatment which is added directly to the tank before re-fuelling. In nearly all cases there will be no need to clean out the tank as the dead bug masses are reduced to fine particles that are either picked up in the fuel filter or passed harmlessly through the engine.
For slight infections use 100ml per 2000litres of fuel, for mild infections use 100ml per 500litres fuel and for heavy infections use 100ml per 100litres fuel

Returning goods to Force 4 is easy!

  1. Please contact us by ringing 0345 1300 710 or email on [email protected]. This way we'll be able to determine whether you would like to return the product for a refund or whether you'd like to exchange the product. We are unable to process the return of faulty goods that we're not expecting.
  2. We'll then give you a returns number. This returns number will need to be clearly marked on the outside of your parcel so it can be identified on arrival. Please note, failure to mark a returns reference number on the outside of your parcel may result in a delay in processing your return.
  3. Don't forget your proof of postage, just in case!
  4. Once we receive the item we'll be able to proceed with a refund or an exchange.

*this excludes faulty goods with manufacturers defects. If goods are found to be faulty during use, after the returns period, please just give us a ring on 0345 1300 710 and we'll be happy to help.

Questions & Answers
Questions & Answers
I have a 40 foot narrow boat but don’t know the size of my fuel tank, what is the best method of treatment and are their any risks of over dosing. Thanks Paula

The average fuel tank for a narrowboat is 40 Gallons/180L, so we would recommend using 2 x 100L treatments. The supplier has confirmed that it is not possible to overdose.

I have a 20L diesel tank for a Yanma 1gm10.I use the boat regularly and have the engine running about 2 hours a week. Do I need to add a fuel additive? What are the consequences of getting diesel bug? Force 4
Due to the decrease in fuel quality and the consequences of getting diesel bug I would always recommend using an additive. An all round additive such as Marine 16 Diesel Fuel complete is a great product to prevent diesel bug and also keep your fuel and engine in great condition. The consequences of getting diesel bug can range from the inconvenient such as blocked filter through to engine breakdown when you are out on your craft.
Does it make sense to change brands of diesel bug treatment every few years. Do the bugs get resistant after some time? Or do the manufacturers change ‘the recipe’ periodically anyway? Force 4
The important thing when using a fuel treatment is that you ensure it is a full spectrum Biocide. This way, even if the bug mutates, you will still 'kill the bug'
Does the dreaded Diesel Bug only affect boats in the winter months? Force 4
Diesel bug can affect your craft whenever you have water in diesel, whether this is built up from condensation, or water that comes in with diesel or leaks in. This is the source that Diesel bug needs to grow and thrive. Therefore if you have no water in your fuel you will not get diesel bug. Keep your tank water free by periodically draining the base of the tank or use a product such as Marine 16 Diesel Dipper or Tank Sock to keep water out of your diesel
My boat has an aluminium fuel tank, which I've had to clean out three times recently. It's time I'd rather spend on the water. I am considering a Diesel Dipper, but it is quite an outlay, in what way would it benefit me? Are they difficult to fit? Force 4
I understand your hesitation on outlay but it will pay dividends. It is very simple to fit, depending on access to your tank. Regular operation of the dipper will ensure that water and debris will be removed from the very bottom of the tank. Normally the outlet point is a little way up the tank and this means that water and debris is retained in the tank which can obviously cause ongoing problems like you have experienced
I have a 200 litre diesel tank with a midsection baffle plate. I can only get access to half the tank through the inspecton hatch. I have a problem with diesel bug blocking the fuel pick up pipe inside the tank despite treating a few times with StarTron. What is my best way forward at this time of year? Force 4
as long as the fuel can get through the whole tank then the sue of a product such as Diesel Bug Treatment at the kill rate of 100ml per 100 litres diesel should do the job
