Mooring & Rope Cleats, Deck Cleats and Bollards

Traditional boat cleats, T-cleats, and mooring bollards are the fundamental anchor points of your vessel's security. They are found all over boats, from running a lightweight flag halyard on a dinghy or securing a heavy cruising yacht to a pontoon. Making sure you choose the right deck hardware ensures your lines remain securely tied off in all weather conditions.

Choosing Cleats by Material & Application

Selecting the correct material for your rope cleats depends entirely on the expected load, environment and aesthetic of your boat.

Stainless Steel & Marine-Grade Alloy

For ultimate strength, corrosion resistance and high-load capacity. Stainless steel deck cleats and alloy bollards are the industry standard for securing primary mooring lines. Folding versions can lay flush against the deck when not in use, reducing trip hazards while maintaining structural integrity.

Nylon & Composite

Lightweight, cost-effective, and completely impervious to corrosion, nylon horn cleats are ideal for low-load applications. Commonly used on small dayboats, sailing dinghies, or on masts for securing flag halyards and light control lines.

Classic Bronze & Gunmetal Bollards

Perfect for classic yachts and traditional vessels, bronze and gunmetal styles offer exceptional durability with a timeless aesthetic. These robust fittings develop a beautiful protective patina over time while offering excellent line-holding security.

Specialised Mast, Shroud & Track Cleats

Maximise your rigging efficiency with purpose-built hardware. Shroud and stanchion models clamp directly onto existing wire or tubing. They provide you instant tie-off points without drilling into the deck. Sliding cleats allow for adjustable positioning along standard T-tracks.

What Size Cleat Do You Need?

Choosing cleat size is mostly about what the cleat is doing and the rope you’re using.

As a quick guide:

  • Light lines & flag halyards → 75–100mm
  • Fender lines & general deck use → 100–150mm
  • Mooring & high‑load use → 150–300mm

For rope fit and handling comfort:

  • 6–8mm rope → 75–125mm cleat
  • 10–12mm rope → 125–175mm cleat
  • 14–16mm rope → 175–250mm cleat

If you’re unsure, going one size up usually makes life easier and spreads load better.

For running rigging that requires frequent adjustment, consider our Cam Cleats and Rope Clutches.
