Cleats, Clutches & Jammers

Cleats appear in all shapes and sizes, all used in various locations on boat with the same purpose, securing the load on a rope.

Cleats
​Sometimes referred to a T cleats or Bollard Cleats. These are the traditional shaped cleat. Generally used for a flag halyard or for larger ropes when mooring up.

Cam Cleats
Spring loaded cams pinch together, allowing rope to move freely one way and prevent it moving in the opposite direction. Allows for quick easy cleating, adjustments and a simple relase as well.

Clam Cleats
Simple V shaped design with no moving parts. The V shaped slot has a ribbed finish to lock the rope in place when under load. A more compact option than a Cam Cleat they are popular fittings on Sailing Dinghys.

Rope Clutches & Jammers
Both are generally operated with a lever arm, engaging or releasing a cam and gripping the rope. Like Cam Cleats they allow the rope to be pulled through in one direction, even when the lever is down and the clutch is activated.
