Tilley Hats – Iconic, Durable, and Designed for Adventure
Tilley Hats are a favourite with UK sailors. They offer comfort, durability, and strong all-weather performance. Whether you’re cruising the coast, racing offshore or exploring ashore, a Tilley offers reliable sun protection.
Every Tilley Hat is designed to sit low and slightly loose, held in place by gravity rather than pressure. This unique fit is what makes them so comfortable on long passages and warm days on deck. With Canadian craftsmanship at their core, Tilley Hats combine technical fabrics with thoughtful details that make a real difference on the water.
Why Sailors Choose Tilley
Tilley Hats are packed with features that make them ideal for life afloat:
- UPF 50+ sun protection for long days on the water.
- Floats in water thanks to a discreet foam insert in the crown.
- Wind‑resistant with adjustable cords to keep your hat secure.
- Quick‑drying fabrics that handle spray and showers with ease.
- Ventilated Airflo® mesh on selected models for maximum breathability.
- Guaranteed for life against wear and tear.
Choosing the Right Tilley Hat
Different sailing conditions call for different styles. Here’s a quick guide to the most popular models:
- LTM5 Airflo – Lightweight, highly breathable and perfect for hot‑weather sailing. Slightly narrower brim, ideal for windier days on the water.
- T3 Wanderer – Classic cotton duck with a rugged look. A great all‑rounder for both land and sea.
How to Measure Your Head
For the best fit, measure your head and then add 1–2cm (0.4–0.8") depending on how snug you prefer your hats. Most sailors choose a slightly looser fit for comfort and airflow.
- Use a fabric tape measure, or a piece of string and a ruler.
- Wrap it around your head so it sits just above your eyebrows.
- Keep the tape level and avoid pulling it too tight.
- Note the measurement, then add 1–2cm for comfort.
- Compare your measurement to the Tilley size chart to find your ideal fit.
