Torqeedo Travel 1003 C Short Shaft Outboard Engine

The CS version of the Travel 1003 electric outboard is fitted with a 915 Wh battery ( 530 Wh on the standard model) which provides longer operating time and a greater range.

With its integrated 915 Wh lithium battery and its outstanding efficiency, the Travel is the alternative to a small petrol outboard. The Travel can do everything that a 3 HP outboard motor can. But it's lighter, cleaner, quieter and more convenient.

The Travel easily propels tenders, dinghies and daysailers up to 1.5 tons and – when it's needed – over long distances, too.

It's also something of an expert when it comes to communication, too. It discloses its most important information to you, connects with your smartphone and can be charged from a standard power outlet, form a 12 V connection or from a solar charger.

The Travel can charge other electrical devices for you, the batteries are now equipped with a USB adapter, allowing your mobile phone, laptops and other equipment to share the Travel's abundant battery capacity.

Information on range and speed

For a displacement boat making way through the water, the required propulsive power increases in proportion to the cube of the speed. This means that if you want to double your speed, you need eight times as much power.

And vice-versa, a small reduction in speed is enough to increase the achievable range substantially.

The Torqeedo Travel's on-board computer calculates the remaining range constantly, by linking the motor's consumption data with the charging level of the batteries, and the speed over the ground from the GPS. This allows you to read the remaining range in real time from the motor display or the smartphone app TorqTrac.

I have a Suzuki 2.5 driving a Zodiac Cadet dinghy with a slatted floor. How will the Torquedo compare for power and range? Force 4
The new Travel 1103CS will be the ideal replacement. Its equivalent to a 3hp petrol motor. As far as range goes it depends how much you open up the throttle. If you go full throttle it will run for about 50 minutes. If you back off it will run for hours.
What is the best way to charge the Torqeedo battery and maximise battery life? Also my new Torqeedo 1103 has become squeaky when I steer. What lubricant is safe to use on the pivot? Force 4
The battery technology is very forgiving. You can run it until its empty before you charge it or you can charge it even if you have just used it for a few minutes. Regarding your squeak. Do not use lubricant on it. Simply remove the 4 screws that hold the cover in place, it looks a little like a segment of Toblorone, then slightly adjust the two screws underneath the cover to reduce the tension a little.
Are there any electronic security measures built into the outboards to reduce the likelihood of theft e.g. unique kill cord fob or passcode required from the app? Force 4
right now the best security is to lock the shaft on the transom and remove the battery and tiller.
With a fully charged battery on a Travel 1103, roughly how long will it operate for on full power? Force 4
On full power it will run for approximately 50 minutes.
Can you charge the battery from a 12V supply e.g. from the yacht batteries with the charger supplied with the outboard? Force 4
You can charge the battery from a 12v system via the mains charger if you use an inverter. However, it makes more sense to buy the optional 12v charger so you have no need for an inverter.
I am considering the Travel 1103C and the Travel 1003C for my 2.6m tender - Please can you explain the main differences between the two engines? Force 4
Both motors have the same battery, 915Wh. The 1003 has a reduction gear box so makes a little noise when under way. The 1103 has a direct drive so is pretty much silent. The 1003 has a slight delay when twisting the throttle before the motor starts. With the 1103 there is no delay whatsoever. The 1003 had a plastic lower unit. The 1103 has an aluminium lower unit. The transom bracket on the 1103 has also been beefed up.
I want to use the Torqeedo on my Zodiac dinghy. When is the short shaft a better choice than the long shaft version? Kate Hattersley
We would always recommend using short shaft on this dinghy. 30/04/21
