Description
Mcmurdo McMurdo SmartFind G8 PLUS AIS Cat. 2 EPIRB

The new Smartfind G8 PLUS AIS beacon takes all of the features of the old G8 AIS, such as a highly accurate position indication, multiple distress frequency trasmission, and AIS trasnmission to aid local search and rescue, and adds a new IR light to aid searchers in pinpointing the casualty in low visibilty conditions.

Combining the global 406 MHz professional search and rescue alert, with the localised locating and tracking power of AIS, the McMurdo G8 AIS PLUS beacon is a true must have companion for anyone undertaking open sea passages.

Key features of the McMurdo G8 AIS PLUS EPIRB Beacon

  • The SmartFind G8 PLUS AIS EPIRB is MEOSAR Compatible® for enhanced detection and location performance (see below for more information on MEOSAR)
  • Now with Infra-Red (Night-Vision) optical signal to aid detection of survivors in low light conditions. Infrared can be detected at greater range and in poorer conditions than standard EPIRB lights, therefore further accelerating recovery times.
  • QUADROTECH® EPIRB, with four search and rescue frequencies, the SmartFind G8 AIS supports the Alert, Locate, Tracking and Recovery elements of search and rescue
  • Greater location detection speed and accuracy, as the multi- constellation GNSS receivers work with a wider range of satellites including Galileo and GPS.
  • McMurdo SmartFind EPIRBs meet the new GNSS requirement which raises the minimum requirements for new EPIRBs being sold globally.
  • False activation protection and multiple self-tests also offer total user confidence.
  • Peace of mid from the unparalleled marine heritage, commitment to quality and a history of innovation, customers know they can trust McMurdo when their lives are at risk. This is backed up by a 5 year warranty*

This is the Category 2 (manually activated) version. Category 2 EPIRB models are supplied with a unique SmartTransfer bracket to prevent accidental activation, once manually removed from the bracket the EPIRB is activated manually or via water contact.

Technical Specification

  • Operating life 48 hours minimum

Understanding the MEOSAR Ecosystem

Cospas Sarsat has rolled out a new search and rescue infrastructure known as MEOSAR. The aim is:

  • Determine beacon location within 5km, 95% of the time, within 10 minutes.
  • The full MEOSAR constellation will comprise more than 70 satellites
  • Near instantaneous beacon signal detection using bent pipe technology — average 46 minutes faster compared to LEOSAR
  • Reduced response times with multiple signal bursts to improve speed and accuracy of location calculation
  • Close to 100% reliability due to multiple antenna systems and MEOLUT networking
  • Lives have already been saved with the early operational MEOSAR through faster alerts and greater accuracy, for example in Australia.

*5 year warranty requires registration of the beacon

If we require you to return the product for a replacement, we will send you a pre-paid Royal Mail label for delivery back to us. Unfortuantely we cannot send the courier back to collect the items.

Returning goods to Force 4 is easy!

  1. Please contact us by ringing 0345 1300 710 or email on [email protected]. This way we'll be able to determine whether you would like to return the product for a refund or whether you'd like to exchange the product. We are unable to process the return of faulty goods that we're not expecting.
  2. We'll then give you a returns number. This returns number will need to be clearly marked on the outside of your parcel so it can be identified on arrival. Please note, failure to mark a returns reference number on the outside of your parcel may result in a delay in processing your return.
  3. Don't forget your proof of postage, just in case!
  4. Once we receive the item we'll be able to proceed with a refund or an exchange.

*this excludes faulty goods with manufacturers defects. If goods are found to be faulty during use, after the returns period, please just give us a ring on 0345 1300 710 and we'll be happy to help.
