SunPower Solar Panel Kit

Exclusive to Force4, these kits use genuine Sunpower semi-flexible panels and are bundled with a charge controller and 5m cables to create a complete solar charging package. SunPower’s world beating back contact Maxeon solar cells deliver up to 25% efficiency, that means more power from less panel. Sunpower are so confident that they provide a 5 year power guarantee, with no saltwater exclusions, as well as a 2 year product warranty for total peace of mind.

Each cell operates independently, so even if part of the panel is in shade they will still provide charge. The charge controller provided is a genuine 10A Spectra regulator. 5m of cabling and a wiring diagram complete this kit, so all you need to add is a few basic electrical connectors to suit your individual application.

Two panel sizes available:

50W Kit - Panel Dimensions 653 x 556mm

100W Kit - Panel Dimensions 1150 x 555mm

Standard Returns

If you are not entirely happy with your purchase, we will exchange or refund your goods in full, provided that the items are returned within 14 days of receipt.*

Please check the condition of goods on arrival - we are unable to accept goods damaged during shipping after 14 days.

Returned goods must be packaged securely, with all original packaging undamaged and in a saleable condition i.e. shoe boxes must be in the same condition as when received.

Goods must be unused and security seals intact.*

If you would like to return goods because they were ordered incorrectly or if clothing does not fit, return postage will be at your expense. If you would like us to replace the goods with another size or colour, we will charge carriage on the replacement.

Please be aware that some navigational and safety products may be dated, and as such a full refund may in some cases not be possible. If you are purchasing dated navigational charts we suggest you contact us for more information.

Faulty Goods

If you receive your goods and believe them to be faulty, please contact us straight away with a brief description of the problem. If we require you to return the product for a replacement, we will send you a pre-paid Royal Mail label for delivery back to us. Unfortuantely we cannot send the courier back to collect the items.

Returning goods to Force 4 is easy!

  1. Please contact us by ringing 0345 1300 710 or email on [email protected] This way we'll be able to determine whether you would like to return the product for a refund or whether you'd like to exchange the product. We are unable to process the return of faulty goods that we're not expecting.
  2. We'll then give you a returns number. This returns number will need to be clearly marked on the outside of your parcel so it can be identified on arrival. Please note, failure to mark a returns reference number on the outside of your parcel may result in a delay in processing your return.
  3. Don't forget your proof of postage, just in case!
  4. Once we receive the item we'll be able to proceed with a refund or an exchange.

*this excludes faulty goods with manufacturers defects. If goods are found to be faulty during use, after the returns period, please just give us a ring on 0345 1300 710 and we'll be happy to help.

Questions & Answers
Questions & Answers
Can I assume that the maximum output to expect would be 22.7 watts (ie 22.7% of 100watts)?This would be less than two amps at a nominal 12 volts. Peter Henery

The efficiency rating of a panel is a measure of the size the panel is for a given power output so a 17% efficient panel is simply larger than a 25% efficient panel of the same wattage.

Where the area available to place solar panels is a limiting factor the more efficient the panel, the greater the power per square meter.

This does not in any way change the rated power of the panel, only its size.

Can this be wired to feed two separate batteries? I have a standard 'battery 1' and 'battery 2' system Richard

No, this system is for charging a single battery as the charge controller doesn't have dual outputs.

See Product code: 120121 for the dual battery charge controller.

1. Can you tell me what the actual output from a 100W panel would be in daily use based on 6 sunshine hours?2. Can the distance from the panel to the controller be greater than 5metres, perhaps nearer to 8 or 9? If so can you supply extra cabling and connectors?3. If I fit 2no. 100W panels do I need two controllers (presumably wired in parallel)? Many thanks,David David Hopwood

Marlec have advised that they calculate the average output of a solar panel month by month using a figure called the Insolation Index. This is a measure of the average amount of solar energy landing in a horizontal surface at a given geographical location each month. This takes into account typical weather patterns for the area. The actual output of the solar panel each month depends on this solar insolation figure, the specific electrical characteristics of the solar panel, it's orientation and tilt angle, the characteristics of the controller, the average temperature, it's height above sea level etc.

We have tried to simplify this with the attached graph which we have drawn up for boats located in the UK, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. This assumes that the solar panels are horizontal and unshaded and that it uses a normal PWM solar regulator.

So for example in the Mediterranean the average output of a 100W solar panel would be about 50Ah per day in the summer falling to about 15Ah per day in the winter.

For longer cable runs we have 10m cables for the SunPower panels or you can simply extend the short cables with a connector of some kind and some more single core 4mm cable.

To use 2 solar panels you would connect them in parallel and use one 20A regulator. You would fit a blocking diode to each panel to prevent backflow of current if one of the panels becomes shaded.

To do all of this neatly you would purchase the following items:

2 x 901-151 T4 Plug/Socket with in line diode £12.95 inc VAT
1 x 901-117 MC-T4 Branch Socket £14.95 inc VAT
1 x 901-118 MC-T4 Branch Plug £14.95 inc VAT
1 x 902-215 Solar cable 4mm T4 Plug/Plain 10m £19.50 inc VAT
1 x 902-216 Solar cable 4mm T4 Socket/Plain 10m £19.50 inc VAT

These items are not necessarily avail

Can these be Bimini Mounted by zipper and velcro, or eyelets, / metal fasteners etc. without voiding the 5 year warranty? Michael Strawson

Yes this could be, there are 4 s/s eyelets in each corner that can be used for this. Making additional holes would then impact the warranty of the product

What is the diameter of the 5m cable? Jemma Cull

The 5m cable is 4mm diameter.

How much can you bend the panel along its length? How does one link panels. I'm considering 3 100w panels Bryan Barnes

Our supplier advises that the bend length ways should be no more than 15-20%. The panels would be linked in parrallel. If you link 3 panels together, you would need a 30A Solar Regulator. Please find more information on the attached Data Sheet. For further advice regarding set up, please call us on 0345 1300 710.

Can these panels be walked on? Gareth Owen

It is not possible to walk on the SunPower Solar Panels.

I have 2 x 12v leisure batteries linked in series, will the 50W kit be sufficient to charge them both please? Phil Niles
A 50 Watt panel should be sufficient to charge 2 x 12V leisure batteries but I would recommend the 100W version as it will charge much faster and more efficiently.
Hi do you have a duel charger to go with the panel that has an hdmi input? Kirk
Hi Kirk, These kits come complete with a regulator to charge a battery. What do you mean by an 'HDMI' input please?
Is this panel suitable for mounting to a companionway slide-hatch. And if so how would it best be mounted? Sikaflex? Mr B Murphy
The solar panel has a maximum height of 20mm, if there is this or greater clearance then yes it can be mounted on the slide hatch. Secondly this can be mounted with a sealant/adhesive or there is 4 S/S eyelets for bolts, screws or hooks for mounting.
If the solar panel kit is permanently wired to the battery, is it protected from the reverse flow of electricity produced by the engine's alternator? Alan

Yes the Regulator provided has over current & reverse discharge protection. So no damage to the solar panel.

Can the Sunpower panels be flexed across their width (as well as along their length)? Bob
Hello Yes they can be flexed across their width or length, although I don't think they would flex across both together too easily / well. 20/01/22 CW
