- Great value deal Review by Mark
Having considered all the available options for a wind generator, after a year running solar panels alone, the Rutland 914i offers the best power input per £ and really is designed to not only minimise installation time , but the build quality is excellent too.
With the HRDI charge controller it's as simple as two wires in from each input device (it has a separate input circuit for an optional solar panel too) , and two wires out (to the battery bank).
If you want to maximise the power supply, you can run the 914i and upto a 160w solar panel, but split the output to a pair of battery banks, one bank per output circuit !
It's that simple honestly !
In operation the noise is minimal, forget test reports comparing decibel levels, it's just a whisper of wind creating a gentle whir at the blades spin, hardly noticeable .
The mast kit is great, it sets the generator safely above head height and is of quality stainless steel , as with all the fittings, so just buy it .... install it ...... enjoy it .
The cheaper options just don't compare in any way.
I run 4x120ah flooded cell 12v batteries from mine and currently the controller shows a healthy 28amps put into the battery bank over the 139 hours since installing it.
Sufficient for the microwave oven, twin tube heaters and double electric blanket for the winter afloat in addition to the usual array of instruments and lights found on a small yacht.
I'm a very happy customer and hope my review helps others to realise they really can winter afloat and enjoy a longer sailing season without catching cold.
