Anchors, Rope, Windlasses and chain

A suitable means of anchoring your boat is one of the most important jobs. You should make sure you have a system that meets the requirements of your vessel. Often boats will have two anchors, this maybe only used as a backup, along with some extra chain, or it could be used for a different sailing environment. Longer distance sailing will often mean a third anchor can be found on board, often ameans of security against the harsh conditions at sea.
You will also need to consider matching up your anchor to your chain, and if you're dropping anchor over a longer distance you'll require a windlass, the chain must be a calibrated match to the windlass.

Anchors
It's an important decision choosing an anchor, there are a various styles, cqr, danforth, atlantic, plough, delta, fortress, folding grapnel and folding Kobra! Anchors are made in various materials as well, galvanised steel and stainless steel, and varying weights. Thankfully we stock all of them, and you can read the benefits of each in their description. Some anchors are better suited to one boat than another, while others are better on one type of seabed than another. Weight is also important for an anchor, as you need to match the correct weight and holding power for the size of your boat, adding more chain can increase the weight of the anchor. Windlasses
Pulling up aheavy anchor can not only be tiring but dangerous, wet and slippery decks can make it even more hazardous, so having a windlass on board can help. We offer both manual windlasses with a great selection of winch handles, and automatic windlasses - vertical and horizontal. We'll even give you advice on how to mount your windlass, explaining where and how the chain needs to be stored.
Rope
We stock a wide variety of both synthetic and traditional ropes. Replacing your ropes can provide extra strength and reliability on board, it could also mean a more comfortable handling state. Not only do we sell every diammeter by the meter but we also prepare ready made docklines.
