If you require the use of mains electrical items such as tv's, computers and fridges on board your boat and you are using batteries, you need to convert the 12 volt DC current from the battery to 240 volt AC Mains power, this requires you to use an inverter. Depending on how many electrical items you need to use will determine the watts size of the invertor.
Just remember to invest in a decent battery charger if you are going to run a lot of electrical parts on board your boat or yacht.
