Simrad AI50 Class B AIS Transponder - The Simrad AI50 is a compact Class “B” AIS with a colour display which displays and transmits a wealth of information, which can be used to enhance safety at sea.
All large commercial vessels including ferries, cargo and passenger ships already carry AIS. Transmitting your own AIS data increases small boat safety dramatically, especially in busy commercial shipping areas. In heavy seas or in radar blind spots, smaller boats can often go undetected, but if you are transmitting an AIS signal, every vessel with a receiver in the area can pinpoint your position.
Ideally mounted at the helm, the Simrad AI50 offers unsurpassed simplicity of operation and clarity of information. You can see or trace other vessels equipped with AIS Transponders, even in the dark, or when the radar’s line-of-sight is blocked. Adjustable range (0.01 to 32nm), with range rings and coastal outlines covering the whole world, make interpreting the ships position as easy as reading a chart. Use the cursor to show a ships name, MMSI & type of vessel, e.g. Tanker, Cargo, Pleasure, Sail, etc. Vessels may be tracked and their speed, CPA, TCPA & rate of turn automatically calculated, offering the helmsman ample warning of impending dangerous situations.
